Sing from the heart, not from the throat...
Welcome to Stephanie's Voice Studio! This is the place where my students are empathetically and compassionately guided to vocal freedom and artistic expression through singing. The time we spend together will focus on the following key elements:

-
YOUR personal goals (preparing for an auditions? Aiming to study singing in college? Need help navigating tricky choir music? Want to make a recording?)
-
Building technique for a life of healthy singing
-
Musicianship (music literacy and learning to be self sufficient to learn music!)
-
Character and role development / interpretation
-
Audition techniques

There's no shortage of studies as to why singing is important and beneficial to the soul. Learning how to read and play music (including singing) has proven to be beneficial for brain development and health long term. Not to mention, the pure enjoyment one feels in completing the goals they have when it comes to their art.

Does this sound like an approach that is appealing to you? Let's get the conversation going and discuss what your goals are in your voice lessons.
Teaching Style
-
Build healthy technique - I take a pedagogical approach to helping my students understand the body as the instrument (I.E. the mechanics of breathing and resonance).
-
Compassionate Coaching Style - focus on what we want the instrument/voice to do - not what isn't working. We celebrate all accomplishments! I believe micro-adjustments make for the best long term results.
-
I will appropriately choose song repertoire that allows us to transfer technique work beyond vocalization into performance.
-
Theory - my students learn music literacy through music theory exercises and applying it to the music they are learning.
Teaching Experience
My teaching experience began in 2009 during my vocal pedagogy studies at The Boston Conservatory. I have since then maintained a private vocal studio and taught at the following institutions: Boston University Tanglewood Institute, Vocal/ Choral Intensive at Boston Conservatory, Powers Music School, All Newton Music School, and Newton Music Academy. My students have come to me with limiting beliefs and learned to see their voice can excel beyond their understanding. They have won auditions for local musical productions, solos in their choir, advanced in district and state competitions, and gone to study at major music programs for college. I am also experienced with students who are not looking to make their life about singing, but include it in their life to bring them joy. I have an extensive knowledge of repertoire for all voice types and can guide students to classical, foreign, folk, jazz, and musical theater song choices that will help achieve their goals.
